DOLE TUPAD grants P833-M to over 175,000 bens in Normin

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–A total of 175,860 beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 got P833,782,252 worth of wages for the fiscal year 2022.

As part of the government’s agenda for poverty reduction, the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 10 under the leadership of Regional Director Albert E. Gutib implemented its emergency employment program, or TUPAD, to prioritize beneficiaries who are displaced and vulnerable workers.

Among the qualified workers who were granted emergency employment, 19,481 beneficiaries were displaced workers from Typhoon Odette that hit the region, December 2021.

Eligible beneficiaries were deployed to work in social, economic, and agro-forestry community projects depending on the needs of the community. The beneficiaries receive basic orientation on occupational safety and health, personal protective equipment (PPE), enrollment in the Government Service Insurance System’s Group Personal Accident Insurance (GPAI), and payment of wages after completing the number of days worked based on the highest prevailing minimum wage in the region.

DOLE’s TUPAD Program is a community-based (municipality or barangay) package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed individuals, and seasonal workers for a minimum of 10 days but not to exceed a maximum of 90 days, depending on the nature of the work performed.
