8 major supermarkets in CDO compliant with SRP

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–The Department of Trade and Industry Misamis Oriental Provincial Office (DTI-MOR) together with the Cagayan de Oro City Local Price Coordinating Council (CDOLPCC) reported that eight major supermarkets are compliant in implementing the suggested retail price (SRP) after its joint conduct of price and supply monitoring of basic necessities and prime commodities.

The eight supermarkets monitored include Gaisano Osmeña, Robinson Supermarket Cagayan de Oro, Shopwise, Robinson Supermarket Limketkai, Ororama Cogon, Gaisano City Mall, SM Premier and The MarketPlace at Centrio Mall Ayala.

“During our monitoring, if we could see that there are violations in the SRP or suggested retail price we will issue a letter of inquiry or LOI. We will give the establishment a chance as part of the due process to explain and justify why they exceeded the SRP,” says Engr. Angelo A. Devero, consumer protection division chief-DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Office.

Meanwhile, store managers ensured that they are following the SRPs provided by DTI.

“We see to it that every item, especially the basic necessities as far as DTI is concerned, are monitored. We make sure that every Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) that is served in our display is at its price level,” says Ryan King N. Maandig, assistant store manager, Robinsons Supermarket.

LPCC Co-Chairperson Lawyer Jose Edgardo Uy shared compliance was high among the stores monitored and only minor observation was found such as missing price tag, which was immediately addressed by the establishment.

DTI MisOr and the CDOLPCC assure the public that they are continuously monitoring all the establishments in terms of pricing to protect their rights and that they may visit their website www.dti.gov.ph to get information on the SRP and prevailing prices of some commodities.

The joint inspection was done in line with Republic Act 7581 as amended by Republic Act 10623 or the price act of the Philippines, which ensures the public of the availability of the basic necessities and prime commodities and that prices are justified and within the suggested retail prices.  (JAKA/PIA-10)
