Moreno lauds media contribution to public info

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–The City Government of Cagayan de Oro and Mayor Oscar Moreno organized “Pasalamat sa Prensa” – A Tribute to Our Media Partners, at the Mallberry Suites, here, June 25, to highlight the contributions of the media in information dissemination during the mayor’s administration since 2013, and for the media’s role in COVID-19 response.

The outgoing mayor highlighted some of the city’s achievements over the nine-year span saying, “Kaluoy sa Diyos (by God’s grace), we have delivered the services in a manner that we can be really proud of. For the last nine years, Cagayan de Oro maintained its standing as one of the country’s 10 most competitive highly urbanized cities, it has not been easy, pero kaluoy sa Diyos we have managed that. Kung tan-awon nimo (if you take a look on) who made it to the top 10 over the last nine years, Cagayan de Oro has been there in each and every year.”

Moreno said managing the city, and before that–the Province of Misamis Oriental, was a challenging task and the expectations of the people are “tremendously high.”

“You need to level up as you succeed, people are happy but the people expect you to move on, you need to level up all, these years it has been that way,” Moreno said.

Moreno presented plaques of appreciation to the local, national media and government communications arm including the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-10, Philippine News Agency (PNA), and DXIM 936Khz AM Radyo Pilipinas CDO as partners in the city’s public information dissemination.

“Salamat kaayo sa suporta, I cannot thank you enough, and every now and then, feel free to call me kung naay mga commentaries that you might want, whether favorable or dili sa administration, I’d be happy to help the public discourse here dinhi sa Cagayan de Oro and northern Mindanao,” he added.

(Thank you very much for the support I cannot thank you enough, and every now and then, feel free to call me if there are commentaries that you might want, whether it is favorable or not to the administration, I’d be happy to help the public discourse here in Cagayan de Oro and northern Mindanao)

Moreno also cited that there are still more challenges that confront the local government in the near and medium term and wishes the administration of Mayor Rolando Uy all the best. He is committed to help the newly-sworn-in mayor and his administration in sustaining the gains of the local government and possibly improve it.

Cagayan de Oro City Information Officer Maricel Casiño-Rivera, for her part, also thanked the media for the delivery of news and information that are vital to the public.

Rivera also recalled how the office started out and how they improved the delivery of information for the people saying, “Lisod kaayo ang City Information Office (CIO) kung dili pa equipped, kinahanglan magdugang og tao kay ang demands sa trabaho taas. I am happy that later on nahimong relevant ang CIO and the entire city government.”

(It is difficult to have a City Information Office (CIO) if it is not equipped. We needed more people because the demands of the job are high. I am happy that later on, the CIO became relevant and the entire city government)

Rivera believes that a well-equipped city information office is very important in governance. (SAYU/PIA-10)
