CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–In line with the celebration of national women’s month, the Department of Tourism-10 held another talk show to highlight various government programs and services catering to women.
Now in its second year, the talk show dubbed “Kababaihan Para sa Kalambuan” (women for progress) was held at the Limketkai Mall Rotunda, March 8.
PMaj. Joann Navarro, the spokesperson and information officer of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 10, was one of the panelists. She talked about some of the most important parts of Republic Act 9262, the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act.
Navarro conveyed that the PRO-10 has been proactive in enforcing the said law. They also intensified their awareness campaign on RA 9262 by going down to the community level, including puroks, sitios, and schools.
According to her, the PRO-10 is likewise continuously capacitating the Women and Child Protection Desk officers of all the police stations in Northern Mindanao in terms of handling violence against women (VAW) cases and executing VAW-related investigations.
Another panelist was Merlyn Ybañez, the Public Affairs Unit head of PhilHealth-10, who shared the various PhilHealth benefit packages for women, including the maternity care package and the Z benefit package for early-stage breast cancer and cervical cancer.
“As women, we have the right to know the correct information; we have the right to know the benefits of PhilHealth, and we also have the right to use and avail of PhilHealth benefits,” she said.
More government agencies will be joining the second round of the talk show on Monday, March 13..
DOT-10 regional director Marie Elaine Unchuan said that the department’s celebration of Women’s Month shows how important women are to building a society where everyone can participate.
She also thanked all the women in the area who work hard to promote tourism and serve as an example for everyone.
