CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–Participants for the three-day ACE Partners’ Review and Assessment coming from Quezon City and Region 10 visited the Oro Care Village in Upper Puerto, this city, last March 29.
Oro Care Village is a 5-hectare facility of the City Government of Cagayan de Oro, through its City Social Welfare and Development Office, which is intended for the abandoned and abused women and children, and senior citizens.
In her talk, Chairperson for Committee on Social Development of the City Council, Councilor Joyleen Mercedes Balaba said that the facility is a initiative of then Mayor Oscar Moreno’s administration, and continuously maintained and strengthened by the current administration of Mayor Rolando A. Uy.
Oro Youth Development Office (OYDO) Officer-in-Charge Lord Saver D. Centina also shared some of the city’s best practices when it comes to upholding the rights and welfare of children. He said that the City Government through the Oro Youth Development Office spearheaded the Oro Kasanag Awards 2022 last February, and it awarded the Seal of Child-friendly Police Station.
According to him, Seal of Child-friendly Police Station is an annual youth-led social audit to sustain the child-friendly efforts and initiatives towards the city’s promotion of children’s rights and welfare. Police Station 5 – Macabalan headed by PMaj. Ericson E. Sabanal bagged the Three-Star Excellent Performance Award in the search.
The visitation in Oro Care Village also features welcoming performances coming from the beneficiaries themselves. The visitors also purchased products made by the beneficiaries such as baked pastries, boiled corn on the cob, rice flour and more. (IJBD/PIA-10)
