The tourism potential of Buntod Cave in Sitio Langag, Barangay Dansolihon in Cagayan de Oro City have been explored by a Cave Management Technical Working Group (TWG) headed by Engr. Armen Cuenca, ang Buntod Cave.
The site has been studied by the TWG since 2018 to see how its environment could be protected and preserved should it be developed as a local tourism destination.
According to the report submitted to the Office of the City Mayor, Buntod Cave is only one of nine caves being explored by the Cave Management TWG since June this year.
A map of Buntod Cave was presented to Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy last October 17 who expressed his support for the project.
The Mayor said while opening up Buntod Cave to tourists would be a big boost to the economy and the development of local tourism, this should not infringe on the rights of Indigenous People on their culture and heritage.
The Cave Management TWG includes the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 10 – PENRO, CENRO, Department of Tourism, City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro), City Tourism Council, City Engineering Office and City Planning and Development Office.
