Opol-El Salvador-Alubijid-Laguindingan Airport Mountain Diversion Road, Cagayan de Oro City
A new road cutting through the mountainous portion of Cagayan de Oro and West Misamis Oriental aims to cut travel time by half from the Uptown portion of the city to Laguindingan Airport and vice versa when it is completed by the end of 2024.
Road alignment approaching Pueblo de Oro
Implemented by DPWH Regional Office X with contractor Triparco Development Corporation as Project 23K00296, the four-to-six lane 35.89 kilometer Opol-El Salvador-Alubijid-Laguindingan Airport Mountain Diversion Road, Cagayan de Oro City will reduce travel time from CDO Airport Road to Laguindingan from the usual one (1) hour and eleven (11) minutes to only thirty (30) minutes once it is completed by December, 2024.
CDO Airport Road origin
This road starts from CDO Airport Road (back of Hotel Koresco) thence towards the western side of Misamis Oriental passing through some western barangays of the city, and thence traversing the Municipality of Opol, City of El Salvador, the Municipalities of Alubijid and Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.
Six lane portion in Pueblo de Oro area
The road segments vary from four to six lanes, like the Balubal-Indahag section has 2-lanes with provision for bike lanes, which expands to six lanes around the Amaya View and Pueblo de Oro sections, and eventually to four lanes in the Baikingon-Opol-El Salvador-Alubijid Laguindingan sections.
Aside from opening up a new link to the Laguindingan Airport, the new road would also offer a short cut to Uptown Cagayan de Oro for travelers coming from Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur and the western coastal municipalities of Misamis Oriental.
Panguil Bay Bridge
Traffic over this particular road is expected to further multiply once the P7.3 billion 3.7 kilometer Panguil Bay Bridge opens to vehicular traffic by June 2024, thereby drastically cutting travel time Lanao Del Norte and Misamis Occidental from 2.5 hours by land to just 7 minutes, and expediting travel to Uptown Cagayan de Oro from the previously distant provinces of Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur.
