On the latest data gathered by the Environmental Management Bureau(EMB) of Northern Mindanao,the island province of Camiguin boasts the highest number of operating Sanitary Landfill facilities among the 33 who comply,while Misamis Occidental and Oriental is the lowest.
On Monday,EMB-10 Regional Director Reynaldo Digamo Jr shared the data.He said that out of 93 Local Government Units in the region, 33 are being served and Camiguin has implemented a joint Sanitary Landfill operation,or more commonly referred to as clustering because of the small areas of the 5 municipalities of the said province who comply 100%.
Bukidnon as the biggest province of Northern Mindanao has 17 LGU’s with operational Sanitary Landfill facilities and that’s 77% of the total towns and cities of the province that includes the two cities of Malaybalay and Valencia.Other towns who comply are Cabanglasan,Maramag,Manolo Fortich,Dangcagan,Damulog,San Fernando,Sumilao,Baungon,Pangantucan,Talakag,Impasug-ong,Libona,Kibawe,Lantapan and Quezon.
Lanao del Norte has only 21% or 5 towns who has the operational Sanitary Landfill and these are Bacolod,Baroy,Kapatagan, Sultan Naga Dimaporo and Tubod. Iligan City didn’t comply yet.
Meanwhile, Misamis Occidental province with three cities has only Ozamiz complied and the other town who complies is Calamba.The Cities of Oroquieta and Tangub are non-compliance yet.The province has only 11% rating and is the lowest among the 5 provinces of Region 10 followed by Misamis Oriental who has 15% compliance rating with only 4 in the list and these are the city of Cagayan de Oro,and the towns of Alubijid,Salay and Villanueva.The two component cities of Gingoog and El Salvador still on an open dump site operations.
