Today, 28 June 2024, SM CDO Malls became a part of the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED), a quarterly public education initiative led by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to raise awareness of earthquake preparedness.
To increase public awareness of the exercise, SM malls in Cagayan de Oro conducted a complete information drive; and to guarantee a seamless implementation, an Emergency Response Group was established. In the course of the exercises, workers from the mall security group and Emergency Response Group led tenants, agency staff, and employees to the assembly place outside the SM malls, where medical personnel were also on call.
The fire exercise is an excellent illustration of how SM and the BFP’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) prioritizes SM staff members’ training to respond to emergencies, such as devastating fires and earthquakes. Disaster readiness is essential to all aspect of SM’s business, from management to staff to front-desk employees at malls.
