CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – June 30, 2025 — In a symbolic gesture of remembrance and respect, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro, led by Club President Neil J. Que, unveiled a supplemental marker honoring the legacy of the late Justiniano Borja, one of the city’s most admired public servants. The unveiling ceremony was held at the JR Borja & Kiosko Kagawasan Park in Divisoria Plaza, a space of both civic pride and historical significance.
Located at the rear of the original monument sculpted by National Artist Napoleon Abueva (1977–1978), the new marker aims to enhance public understanding of Borja’s contributions to the city during his term as mayor from 1954 to 1964. The initiative underscores the Rotary Club’s commitment to celebrating heritage and recognizing individuals whose leadership helped shape Cagayan de Oro’s identity.
Among those present were several Rotary leaders including Project Chairman Tito Noel V. Mora, Past President Carlos Gorospe, President Nominee Nilo Ampit, and Director Jairus John Gochuco. The event also welcomed Rotary spouses, such as President Juliet Empedrad, and members of the Gorospe family, showing a united front in honoring Borja’s enduring influence.
Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy, who attended the event, praised the Rotary Club for its dedication to preserving local history and fostering partnerships between civic organizations and the local government. Representatives from the City Museum and Heritage Studies Center, the City Historical Commission, and the City Information Office also lent their presence to the tribute.
This commemorative effort reflects the Rotary Club’s ongoing mission to promote civic pride and historical awareness—ensuring that the memory of visionary leaders like Justiniano Borja remains alive for future generations.
