CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–Northern Mindanao’s government planning focals gathered, July 6, 2022 at the Mallberry Suites, here, to develop numerical targets and to identify local programs, projects, and activities in support of the country’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Cariño, who is also the Regional Committee on the Sustainable Development Goals chairperson, encouraged those in attendance to continue efforts towards the realization of the 17 SDGs and emphasized the importance of using granular data. “We have very finite resources, therefore, we must focus on the areas that need government intervention the most,” said the regional agency head.

Castro reported that based on 2020 SDG Watch estimates, Region 10 was on track in terms of ending poverty, while it was ahead in eradicating hunger, producing affordable and clean energy, reducing inequalities, ensuring sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and protection, peace, justice, and strong institutions, and partnership for the goals.
The planners in attendance take into account the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as, current geopolitical and climate crises in the assessment and targeting process.
The progress and planning workshop was organized by the NEDA Sub-Committee on SDGs (SC-SDG) Secretariat led by Michael Angelo U. Provido, chief economic development specialist of NEDA-10. It convened around 50 representatives from 33 regional line agencies.
