Normin agencies, LGUs propose targets toward achieving SDGs

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–Regional line agencies along macro, social, infrastructure, and macro development sectors, local government units (LGUs), and other government instrumentalities convened for the Consultation Workshop on Setting Regional Numerical Targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), May 27.

Said endeavor was conducted at the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)/Regional Development Council (RDC)-X Building, Capistrano-Echem Streets, here, as well as, through video conferencing.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is the universal plan of action to achieve a sustainable future for all people, planet, and prosperity through collaborative partnership by 2030.  It also seeks to strengthen universal peace and freedom. The SDGs summon all countries and stakeholders to implement this plan.

NEDA-10 Chair Dir. Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño underscored that collaboration and partnership among all line agencies and local governments are crucial in contributing to the attainment of the SDGs “para sa lig-on, hamugaway, og kinabuhi na may kasiguraduhan para sa tanan (for a strongly-rooted, comfortable, and secure life for all).”

Cariño, who also serves as the chair for RDC-10 Regional Statistics Committee (RSC)-10 and Regional Committee on the Sustainable Development Goals (RCSDG)-10, summons the government instrumentalities and other stakeholders to lead capacity building activities, provide data support, identify and prioritize programs and projects, as well as, policy guidelines on budget prioritization for the SDGs.

Overall, the consultation workshop plans to set the regional numerical targets of the SDG indicators, engender ownership and gather suggestions, and provide a platform for initial discussions on actions to improve the growth trajectory of the region to meet the 2030 SDG targets. The workshop also identified gaps in setting the targets and recommended actions.

The proposed regional sectoral targets will be validated through the RDC-X sector committees, RSC-X, RCSDG-X, and the line agencies’ national offices. Further, other succeeding activities will be conducted to adopt and realize the regional targets. (NEDA-10/PIA-10)
