Mayor Klarex Uy, Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez and other top city officials led the re-opening of the newly-rehabilitated Magsaysay Park area at Plaza Divisoria during the recent celebration of the Philippines 126th Independence Day.
This is part of the Divisoria Park Redevelopment Project dubbed Project Lunhaw, an urban green space initiative of the city government and partner stakeholders.
A highlight of the event is Evolution: Cagayan de Oro’s Journey and Rebirth, an ongoing exhibit at the OKK-Resilience Center, Magsaysay Park to celebrate the 126th Philippine Independence Day.
It is a brief history of Plaza Divisoria or the Golden Friendship Park.
Hopefully, the future generations can now properly appreciate the statue of President Ramon Magsaysay executed by Maestro Eskultór Ramon Icayan Cabello of Jasaan, Misamis Oriental.
His other famous sculptures in Cagayan de Oro include the monument of Misamis Governor Apolinar Velez y Ramos at the Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) commissioned by the school’s 1981 Alumni Association headed by President Virgilio V. Neri unveiled during the 72nd Founding Anniversary & General Alumni Homecoming of the school on March 21, 1981, and the bust of Girl Scouts of the Philippines Founder Josefa Llanes Escoda at the recently demolished former building of the GSP Misamis Oriental Council next to the Pelaez Sports Center.
