Globe, partners fiberize Zamboanga City with $150M PDSCN Project

The country’s longest submarine cable network has now reached the shores of Zamboanga and is on track for completion in April as planned, leading digital solutions platform Globe has said.

Globe, together with partners Eastern Communications and InfiniVAN Inc., is working to improve the existing telecommunications infrastructure in Zamboanga City by landing its first submarine fiber optic cable through the $150-million Philippine Domestic Submarine Cable Network (PDSCN) project.

The milestone was witnessed by Globe District Business Head for West Mindanao Ian Valencia and Operations Area Head for Zamboanga Everard Peñaflor.

“This subsea cable project is proof of Globe’s unwavering commitment to providing a world-class network infrastructure throughout the country. By expanding our fiberization efforts, we aim to improve the quality of mobile and broadband services and meet the growing demand of Filipinos for reliable connectivity,” said Valencia.

“As the country gears towards a digital economy, Globe remains dedicated to making significant investments in enhancing our network infrastructure to provide Filipinos with reliable and seamless access to the digital world. This is in line with the government’s objective of promoting innovation, e-governance, and greater digital adoption across the country,” added Peñaflor.

PDSCN aims to lay 2,500 kilometers of fiber cables across key points in the country to improve both mobile and broadband connectivity, particularly in unserved and underserved areas.

The project kicked off in Subic Bay, Zambales on July 14, 2022, and has successfully reached 33 landing sites nationwide. Before arriving in Zamboanga City, the subsea cable connection passed through Kinoguitan in Misamis Oriental and Camiguin Island.

Globe has been expanding its network across the country to provide equitable and life-enabling connectivity to Filipinos.

Globe spent a record $1.9 billion in capital expenditures last year to put up 1,702 new cell sites, upgrade around 13,600 mobile sites to LTE and install 2,267 new 5G sites nationwide.
