DOT, DOLE open two-day tourism job fair in CDO

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–The Department of Tourism (DOT)-10 and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 formally opened the two-day “Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso! Philippine Tourism Job Fair,” March 30, at the Limketkai Mall Atrium, here.

The job fair aims to provide opportunities for job seekers to land a job in the tourism industry while at the same time revitalizing the industry, which has been affected by the pandemic.

DOT-10 Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan says the “Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso!” Philippine Tourism Job Fair not only aims to restore what was lost in the tourism industry but also expand the industry’s reach to make Northern Mindanao one of the best destinations in the country. DOT-10 Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan said the “Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso!” Philippine Tourism Job Fair is one of Tourism Secretary Maria Esperanza Garcia-Frasco’s important flagship programs for the industry to bounce back.

“It envisions recovering the industry’s losses from the pandemic and bridging our fellow Filipinos to job opportunities that our industry needs as we start our road to full recovery,” she said.

DOLE-10 Assistant Regional Director Estrella Pahalla says the “Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso!” Philippine Tourism Job Fair Northern Mindanao leg is a ground for job seekers to land good jobs and for employers to get quality workers. On the part of the DOLE, Assistant Regional Director Estrella Pahalla said they partnered with the DOT, taking into consideration that many were displaced by the pandemic and the tourism industry is one of the most greatly affected. With the partnership, they hope to keep the tourism industry alive by facilitating employment.

At the two-day job fair, 75 employers from the hotel and lodging industry, retail and service industries, manufacturing, manpower services, and BPOs are offering 2,500 open positions.
The top five vacancies are for financial advisers, customer service representatives, drivers, bus conductors, and accounting services.

The tourism job fair in Northern Mindanao leg also featured cultural performances from Kagay-an Performing Arts and Datu Pio Pataganao, as well as a product exhibit of local crafts made by women’s organizations to showcase the region’s rich culture.
