In his report to DENR 10 Regional Executive Director Arleigh J. Adorable, CENR Officer Virgilio Batocail said the assembly was successfully held in barangays Kalabugao and Hagpa, Impasug-ong, in the morning and afternoon of February 9, 2019, respectively. The two barangays will be the pilot area of CAVCS. He said local government officials, barangay residents and stakeholders were consulted on the new project of DENR. Representatives from the FMB and DENR 10 discussed the project.
CAVCS is a new initiative of the Forest Management Bureau (FMB) to encourage the private sector to invest in projects that sequester carbon by formally recognizing forest protection, reforestation, and other forest restoration activities.
Holcim Resources Development Corporation (HRDC) is the partner of DENR in the pilot project which has a total area of 3,156 hectares.
It can be recalled that on November 9, 2018, the DENR represented by FMB Director Nonito M. Tamayo , DENR 10 Regional Executive Director Adorable and Engr. Tito L. Mendoza, representing Renato A. Baja, President and General Manager of HRDC signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the pilot project of CAVCS.
In another development, CENRO Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon conducted a clean-up activity in Alae River on February 16, 2019. The clean-up activity is in participation to the region-wide simultaneous river clean-up organized by DENR 10 in support to the call of Secretary Roy A. Cimatu to improve the water quality of rivers in the country.
It was participated in by employees of Republic Biscuit Corporation, officials of the local government of Barangay Alae, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon including sitio leaders and beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
As a manifestation of their continuous support in the protection and rehabilitation of the Alae river, participants signed the Covenant of Membership for the Tayo Ang Kalikasan, a DENR-led People’s Environment Stewardship Movement that helps lead the nation toward sustainable development.
An inventory of illegal settlers and structures along the easement of the river was also conducted to identify the sources/contributors of wastes in the area. #TayoAngKalikasan (Ana Mae Sumalinog) RSCIS MR No. 02-046-2019
