Providing communities with access to clean water has always been COWD’s priority. At the height of the pandemic, proper hygiene and sanitation has been the first line of defense and this would not be made possible without water. Thus, COWD has expedited the construction of Level III Water Supply Systems (WSS) in the various relocation sites in the city.
Completed in 2020 were WSS in Phase 2 Macapaya located in Upper Camaman-an, Centro and Sitio Molave in Malasag Barangay Cugman, Berjaya Gawad-Kalinga in Bugo and Phase 2 Pagatpat Relocation Site earlier this year. Buena Oro in Upper Macasandig was also amongst those served last year.
Another ongoing project is for the Pamalihi Relocation Site Phases 1 and 2 located in Pagatpat this city. The installation and laying of a 200mmØ transmission line, 1.8 km long has been completed.
The water distribution system within the Pamalihi Relocation Site is for implementation by the City Government scheduled May of this year. While awaiting for the completion of the distribution line project to be undertaken by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Cagayan de Oro through its contractor, the line is currently being utilized as communal faucet for the use of the families in the transitory shelter in the area. These displaced families, affected by the drainage widening projects along Kolambog and Bitan-ag Creek, are temporarily sheltered here while construction of their respective homes in the said relocation site is still ongoing.
Once the water distribution pipelines are in place and have passed the COWD standards, COWD shall install 41 meter stub-outs as its contribution to the project, in addition to the 200mmØ transmission pipeline which has already been laid.
As soon as the project is fully completed, it shall be turned over to COWD for operation and maintenance. This Level III Water Supply System (WSS) Project is expected to serve around 571 households. (Public Relations/Information Division)
