Bukidnon students start the year with new classrooms

On that day, AboitizPower subsidiary Hedcor turned over a single-storey, two-classroom building, which came with tables, arm chairs, and spacious comfort rooms.
For two months, teachers and students at Dalirig Elementary School witnessed the construction of the new facility as it was built right behind their old classrooms. The project is a collaboration between Hedcor Bukidnon, Inc. and Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. as part of their initiative to advance their partner communities through education.

The beneficiaries did not hold back on expressing their joy and gratitude over the new school building, with selected students performing the Kaamulan, a native dance in the Bukidnon province, which signifies thanksgiving. Parents and teachers alike were generous in their efforts to make the ceremony even more festive, providing a sumptuous lunch for everyone and preparing the venue for the event.

No less than Manolo Fortich Mayor Clive Quino led the turnover ceremony and sincerely expressed his gratitude over the said initiative.

“Lahi ang business culture sa (The business culture is different at) Hedcor. They do not engage with community just for business but rather they want to bring change to the community, and change comes from education. In Manolo Fortich, Hedcor has already given us 13 classrooms. These are one of the reason why we should consider ourselves very lucky to be partners with Hedcor,” Mayor Quino said.

Among the members of the school faculty, teachers Jamaima Okit and Jean Rizo were most thrilled by the new classrooms since they were tasked to look after these new facilities.
“I checked the classrooms from time to time during its construction. I just couldn’t wait for the classrooms to be completed. Seeing it now, the classrooms are amazing!” teacher Jamaima shared.
Teacher Jean added that the new learning facility will improve the quality of the education they provide to their learners.
“The classrooms are conducive for learning. With the comfort the classrooms provide, the students’ mind are more than set to learn new lessons,” she said.
The turnover of these classrooms is one of Hedcor’s biggest community relations activities for 2018.
Hedcor is the run-of-river hydropower arm of AboitizPower which operates 21 power facilities in the country with a total gross capacity of 250 MW. To advance business and communities, Hedcor envisions “A Better Future” through Cleanergy, AboitizPower’s brand for clean and renewable energy.
